Developer Chagas12 showcased these WIP images to demonstrate the process of creating backgrounds for their Game Boy Color game, Augury, which is available on real GBC hardware and in a browser.
According to the creator, the first image is the viewport, the second is the render, and the third is the post on Aseprite, with some of the effects from custom passes in Blender. The artist explained that it's a simple color ramp setup on the color ramp, usually on the diffuse node, with Goo Engine used for some rims. The render is made based on the Game Boy resolution, and the filter size is 0. The main menu art was also made using Blender.
The project in question is a pixel-style game based on the plot of Hamlet but featuring a few twists. You play as Horacio, tasked with discovering the culprit behind Hamlet's demise and solving that case. With the help of a mysterious item, you might reach the truth. The game has two finales, with one of them being the true ending.
