Double Fine Releases a 32-Episode Series About the Development of Psychonauts 2
The series was in the works for seven years.
Double Fine, the developer of the Psychonauts series, has released Double Fine PsychOdyssey, a documentary series covering the development of Psychonauts 2.
The series created by Double Fine in collaboration with 2 Player Productions was in the works for seven years. It tracks the studio's highs and lows in creating Psychonauts 2 as the developers confront "overly ambitious designs, poor morale, technical challenges and financial woes, all during a turbulent span of time for the world."
Spanning 32 episodes (which take over 20 hours), the documentary is the direct continuation of the studio's previous work, Double Fine Adventures, and, according to the studio, it provides "even deeper insight into the passion, humor, and heartbreak of video game development."
Psychonauts 2 was released in 2021 to critical acclaim, becoming one of the top-rated games of the year. Initially, development was funded via crowdfunding, and later Double Fine was acquired by Microsoft which further helped the developers to complete their project.
