E3 2021 Сost Over $6 Million to Host

ESA, the company responsible for hosting E3, said they are still deciding on the future of the event.

ESA has faced some difficulties caused by the extremely high costs of hosting the Electronic Entertainment Expo. The most recent data provided by the ESA indicates that nearly $6 million was spent on different services, including marketing and servers, for the digital event E3 2021. For hosting the event, ESA claims to have paid $584,000 to Smithbucklin and $3.9 million to the advertising firm Paragon.

Game Cloud Network earned $1.6 million for the creation of an online platform for the event. ESA spent roughly $7.3 million, including additional expenses.

As a result, E3 lost $4 million on the occasion while only making $3.4 million. At the same time, the total income of ESA amounted to $39 million.

During the pandemic, ESA lost $274,000 in 2020 because of the event's cancellation. The numbers for the company's most recent major event in 2019 were not so positive: ESA suffered a $2.2 million loss. The business made $40 million in sales that year, but $42 million in costs caused a loss for the business.

In March 2023, Global VP of Gaming at ReedPop, an event organizer that ESA had partnered with for the event, shared a public statement regarding the decision to call off the conference in 2023. "This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3," the statement says.
