According to the latest reports, Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb, a known game insider, recently shared information from his sources that the planned remake of Dead Space 2 had been halted during the initial development phase.
Grubb's sources suggested that EA decided to cancel the project because of disappointing sales of the revamped Dead Space. However, the exact number of units sold remains undisclosed. As for the game itself, it was well-received by players, boasting over 90% positive feedback on Steam.
"They were working on Dead Space 2, and they are no longer working on it," Grubb stated during Game Mess Mornings (via PC Gamer). "It is on the shelf because the first game had lackluster sales, is how it was phrased to me."
It seems that EA couldn't stay idle, so the publisher provided their side of the story saying that it's not true.
"We don't normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story," EA shared with IGN.

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier also confirmed that Motive, the developer behind the game, was never working on the remake of Dead Space 2. They "explored ideas for a new entry early last year but none was greenlit."
Schreier later added that all the confusion came from the fact that the team used the same code name to talk about the project they had been working on.
"Let me clear this up: Motive used the same code name to describe *whatever project* that the Dead Space team was working on next, hence the confusion on Jeff's part," Schreier wrote on Twitter. "It was never really a Dead Space 2 remake, and for nearly a year it's had nothing to do with Dead Space."
