Elden Ring creator Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke about multiplayer elements in games and discussed FromSoftware's plans for future Elden Ring content.
In a recent interview with IGN, Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki discussed multiplayer elements in games, his sources of inspiration, and plans for future Elden Ring content.
When asked about the latest technologies, trends, or ideas in gaming that he finds inspiring or exciting, Miyazaki mentioned his fascination with games' multiplayer elements, from both a fan and creator perspective.
"Other folks in the industry, they keep updating multiplayer network functionality and the game design in order to change the way that the players are involved in the gameplay, and how the players are used as one of the resources for the gameplay. So that's why I'm paying attention to these elements," he explained.
According to Miyazaki, FromSoftware keeps updating the technology and game designs related to multiplayer elements. He also brought Escape From Tarkov as an example of a game he is paying attention to in terms of its multiplayer features.
"I'm really interested in [multiplayer elements] as one of the fans and one of the creators. Especially speaking of [Escape From] Tarkov, for example," he said. "So I'm basically paying attention to those elements as a creator and fan of the game."
Elsewhere in the interview, Miyazaki spoke about Elden Ring's unprecedented success and discussed how it influences FromSoftware's plans for future content.
The developer shared that although the game is "obviously" a commercial success, it doesn't influence the team's decisions on their next projects.
"Obviously Elden Ring is a commercial success. Everybody's aware about that, but it doesn't really affect what we are going to create next," he said. "We basically keep creating the game that we want to create, and that's our policy. It's very simple."
Still, Miyazaki noted that the team enjoyed working on Elden Ring even despite the challenges the devs faced along the way. He believes that this experience was really rewarding and expressed a desire to continue creating "the game which has a very big worldview universe and let the players feel the adventure spirit."
