The Show and Tell event demonstrated the development of the tech.
At the Neuralink Show and Tell event, Elon Musk presented what the company had achieved and showed some progress in the brain-machine interfaces. Last year, we saw a monkey playing Pong with its mind, this time, another one managed to type "welcome to show and tell" and ask for snacks.
Musk said that Neuralink could implant one of the devices into a human, it had submitted most of the papers to the Food and Drug Administration. He even hinted at getting the tech into his own head in the future.
Neuralink's gadget has multiple “threads” that can be inserted into the brain, and to do this, the company needs a robot surgeon as the threads are tiny. You can see how the procedure is done in the video starting at 2:00:15.
“Imagine taking a hair from your head and sticking it into jello covered by saran wrap, doing that to a precise depth and precision, and doing that 64 times in a reasonable amount of time,” said Christine Odabashian, the leader of Neuralink’s hardware insertion team (via The Verge).
The company admitted that the event was meant to not only showcase the technological advancements but also recruit new specialists. As it moves from prototype to product, Neuralink needs many different kinds of jobs.
