Enjoy These Early 3D Pokémon Renders by Keiji Kinebuchi

Embrace the nostalgia.

Pokémon has been around for decades, and the franchise's look has changed since its release in 1996. Today, let's travel to the past to see early 3D images of the creatures created by Keiji Kinebuchi, a 3D illustrator who helped develop the art for the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

X/Twitter user Low Poly Depression jumped into this time warp by posting several images from the card, but you can find more on The Art of Pokémon.

Kinebuchi designed his images using LightWave 3D back in the 90s, according to Bulbapedia, but Low Poly Depression says the renders were done with Softimage 3D and Alias PowerAnimator.

Whatever the case, the pictures aged well and are a huge staple in Pokémon history.

If you want to see modern interpretations of the characters, check out this cute Squirtle blowing bubbles, a sweet Pikachu animation, and this Tatsugiri made with pixels.
