Epic Games Has No Plans For VR Version Of Fortnite

The intense motion of the game doesn’t work as well in VR.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that the company is not planning to make a VR version of Fortnite. In an interview with The Verge, he noted that the "intense motion" players go through in the game doesn't work well in VR.

"Epic has no plans to build a VR version of Fortnite. Not out of any grand business strategy, but just because the thing that we do in Fortnite every day as gamers is run through an environment rapidly, and it’s the kind of experience that involves intense motion and doesn’t work as well in VR. And so if we were to ever do anything in VR, it would have to be something that’s really custom tailored for the experience."

As noticed by UploadVR, he then also explained on Twitter that all players can play Fortnite together across all platforms, but "if VR required special modes, groups would be fragmented." He also mentioned that Epic Games had tested Unreal Tournament in VR, and "everyone got sick when moving quickly, and we discovered that when you barf in the metaverse, you barf in real life."
