Epic Games Is Working on Programming Language for Metaverse

Verse offers existential variables, unification, expressions that yield multiple values, and more.

Epic Games has presented its declarative programming language of the metaverse called Verse. It is an open-source functional logic language with existential variables, unification, expressions that yield multiple values, and more.

In his presentation, Simon Peyton Jones described the new language as scalable, transactional, extensible, and learnable as a first language, with "strong interop guarantees over time".

It is supposed to support CEO Tim Sweeney's vision of the metaverse, which he sees as an open economy with rules but no "corporate overlord". To him, it is a creation platform open to all programmers, artists, and designers, supporting social interaction in a shared real-time 3D simulation. There, everyone’s code and content must interoperate dynamically, with live updates of running code.

Verse is still in development, with part of its functionality not yet complete. You can learn more about it here. Also, don't forget to join our Reddit page and our Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
