Escape From Tarkov Players Will Have to Buy the Game Again If They Want to Play on Steam

A Battlestate Games account is still required to play on Steam.

The promised Steam page for Escape From Tarkov has finally gone live, two months ahead of the planned 1.0 update's release, and along with it comes the news many fans hoped they wouldn't see – the Steam version won't be free for existing players.

Battlestate Games

As stated in the Steam FAQ published by Battlestate Games, existing players will need to re-purchase Escape From Tarkov on Steam – any edition – and then link their Battlestate Games account in order to play. If the editions differ between platforms, the game will automatically recognize the higher edition when launched through Steam. Since all progress is tied to the Battlestate Games profile, it won't be lost when accessing the game via Steam.

As for those who don't yet have any progress to lose, a.k.a. new players, they will likewise have to create a Battlestate Games account and connect it to their Steam profile, with third-party account linking listed as mandatory on EFT's new page.

Additionally, the Steam page has confirmed that, just like the original release, the new version will include the kernel-level anti-cheat software BattlEye, which must be manually removed after uninstalling the game, and has listed the minimum and recommended specs your PC would need for you to enjoy the title.
