Here's everything we know about the largest game mods website's new presumed owner – Chosen.
By now, you probably have already heard the news about Robin Scott, a.k.a. Dark0ne, selling the biggest video game mods repository, Nexus Mods, with the official statement about him transferring ownership of the site due to the stress of maintaining it having already made headlines and sparking a wave of questions across the gaming community.
Instead of following suit and simply rephrasing the announcement like many other gaming outlets did, let's take a closer look at perhaps the most mysterious and bizarre part of the deal – just who on Earth is the new owner of Nexus Mods, and why did Dark0ne choose not to disclose such an important piece of information in his statement?
Despite not explicitly naming the company or individual who bought Nexus Mods, the official statement does give us the first clue about the party responsible, as toward the end of the post, Dark0ne mentioned that we would be "seeing more of Foledinho and Rapsak," whose real names were revealed to be Victor and Marinus, respectively.
With both of their Nexus profiles listing them as Site Owners, it was clear that they're not just new community managers or developers, but the new de facto board of directors running the site.
While many were eager to find out who the new owner of Nexus Mods is, a couple of ResetEra users – RandomlyRandom67 and chocobalt – were the most determined, uncovering a link between Foledinho and Rapsak and two Danish entrepreneurs from Copenhagen: Victor Folmann and Marinus Elgaard, whose LinkedIn pages were discovered as well.
While it could have been dismissed as a simple name coincidence, the fact that Victor and Marinus work at the same company – and more tellingly, that Marinus lists Nexus Mods under his Experience section – makes it all but confirmed that the duo are the new co-owners of the site.
Another clue comes from one Nikolai Nguyen, whose Experience tab also mentions Nexus, but where Marinus was rather vague – "working closely with teams" doesn't sound like a concrete confirmation, especially when taken out of context – Nikolai was more straightforward, openly stating that the company he serves as COO of is "shaping product and strategy across Nexus Mods":
So, what is this company that unites all three individuals? Meet Chosen, a firm I'm sure most of our readers haven't heard of until now. According to Crunchbase, the company was established in January 2025 – though that may be inaccurate, as Chosen's Twitter page was created a bit earlier, in October 2024 – and has somewhere between 11 to 50 employees, with Victor Folmann listed as Founder and CEO, and Marinus and Nikolai as Co-Founders.
And this is where it gets interesting: by the looks of it, no one has really heard of Chosen. For example, their official Twitter page has only five followers, two of whom are Victor Folmann and Marinus Elgaard, the company's Discord server is empty, and its official website doesn't even have an About page, making it difficult to find any meaningful information about Chosen.
As barebones as it is, the website does provide some information, though it can be hard to make sense of it thanks to the entire page being filled with paragraph after paragraph of corporate lingo. According to the official description, Chosen works by partnering "with founders to help scale what they've built, amplifying their impact, supporting their team and culture, and ensuring the business thrives for the long term."
The firm's list of cases includes RenderZ (owned by Victor), FUTBIN (where Nikolai was Head from December 2022 to July 2024), GamerzClass (Victor is Founder and CEO, Marinus is CTO and Co-Founder), and HLTV (acquired in 2020 by Better Collective, a digital sports media group based in Denmark that also owns FUTBIN). With all their "cases" somehow connected to the same three people, it sure comes across less like a genuine client list and more like a collection of companies they could safely include in this section without facing any pushback.
What's also interesting is that beyond the connection between Chosen and Better Collective through Nikolai and their shared Danish roots, Victor is listed as a Venture Partner at Dreamcraft Ventures, an investment firm founded by Jesper Søgaard, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Better Collective. Among Dreamcraft Ventures' clients are the previously mentioned GamerzClass and Metafy, GamerzClass' current owner, establishing yet another line of connection in this entangled web of Danish monetization-focused firms.
So, where does that leave us? Assuming the connections between these companies and individuals aren't just a string of unlikely coincidences, it looks like an essentially no-name firm with no online footprint and a questionable client roster has just acquired the biggest modding site around.
This conclusion raises three main questions. The first – where did they get the money to acquire such a behemoth – can be reasonably assumed: either from the sale of GamerzClass to Metafy, or through funding from Better Collective and/or Dreamcraft. The second – why would Victor, Marinus, and Nikolai want to buy Nexus – is also fairly simple: the site is profitable and represents a prime example of the UGC business model – the kind of model more and more corpos are chasing these days.
There's, however, one last question that bugs me a little: If everything is legit and above board, and if Dark0ne's words about the ownership change not affecting Nexus Mods users much are true, then why wasn't it officially revealed who the new owner is?
Is it because Chosen is a monetization firm? Is it because Nexus is about to enter a new era, plagued by new strategies to profit from player-made mods? Is that why Nexus' community managers were deleting comments promoting other modding repositories before closing the main announcement's comment section entirely? I suppose we'll have to wait and see – because, at least right now, it seems unlikely the Chosen team will be choosing transparency.
