Experience The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in VR with This Free Mod

Crementif shared their project on GitHub.

Check out a mod that brings the 2017 action-adventure The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to VR, created by modder Crementif, with a new trailer made by WunderbarVR. The large-scale project has been released after 5 years of development.

The BetterVR project, aimed at providing a better PC VR mode for BotW using the Cemu emulator, is a flatscreen-to-VR conversion mod for Nintendo's game. Since the first trailer, the project has received 20 updates, bringing meaningful improvements, bug fixes, and polish, and further updates are planned. The BoTW mod is free and available on GitHub.

The mod currently features full hands and arms support, wielding weapons, torches, and bokoblin arms in combat, gestures to equip and throw weapons, use of motion controls to interact with the world, compatibility with other mods, an option for a third-person perspective, and more. The potential plans include adding multiplayer support, an update reworking the stereo rendering, bug fixing, Linux support, dual wielding, and other additions.

Earlier, Crementif showcased how the BotW mod works in action. Check out the footage:

In the trailer, Crementif also announced a VR adaptation for Mario Kart 8, aiming for the same quality as their BotW mod. The release date isn't defined yet, partly depending on whether the project uses the Wii U or Deluxe version.
