The Tumblehead team also delved into the production process, detailing how Houdini was used for every aspect of Turbulence.
SideFX unveiled Turbulence, an animated short film by Tumblehead animation studio and Christopher Rutledge, produced in collaboration with SideFX and supported by its R&D team. The film follows a diverse cast of characters navigating the chaotic experience of air travel, brought to life in a fluid, caricature clay-like style.
Houdini was central to the production, particularly in rigging and animation, showcasing the capabilities of the KineFX and APEX workflows. The team also used Solaris for scene setup, Karma XPU for rendering, and COPs for shot compositing.
If you've been keeping up with SideFX, you might remember that during the final stages of Turbulence's production, the team discussed how Houdini was used throughout the entire filmmaking process as part of HIVE 2024.
