Fallout TV Series Might Ultimately Have 5-6 Seasons

Aaron Moten, who portrayed Maximus in the show, spoke about the series' planned "end point."

The second season of Amazon's Fallout TV series has finally been given a December 2025 release window, sparking widespread anticipation – including both excitement from the show's fans and concern from those unhappy with its portrayal of the legendary game franchise.

But while other shows get renewed as they go along, with legions of investors scrutinizing a previous season's financial performance to decide whether to continue them or send them down the memory hole, Amazon seems very optimistic about the series, not only renewing it for Season 3 months before Season 2 is set to air, but also reportedly planning as many as five to six total seasons.

Amazon

The unexpected reveal comes from Aaron Moten, who played Maximus in the show and recently spoke about character development during Comic Con Liverpool. According to Moten, even though only one season of Fallout has aired so far, the actors were given both a "starting point" and an "end point" for their characters. "That end point hasn't changed, but it is Season 5/6-type of end point. We've always known that we're going to take our time with the development of the characters," the actor said.

While it might be easy to assume that Amazon is indeed planning up to six seasons of Fallout, given their willingness to renew the show without seeing Season 2's performance, it's also entirely possible that Moten was speaking figuratively, using the "5-6 seasons" figure simply to illustrate the scope of character development the showrunners have in mind, and as such, his statement shouldn't be taken as a concrete confirmation of Amazon's long-term plans for the series.

However, if the studio is actually planning that many seasons or, even worse, has already made financial moves behind the scenes to make it happen, this could very well become the most illustrative example of the fine line between bravery and stupidity in recent history, when the setting of Season 2 is taken into consideration.

Amazon

For those unaware, while Amazon's Fallout became an instant favorite for fans of the later games and "tourists" unfamiliar with the franchise, the group that largely hated the show was old-school Fallout fans, who criticized it for a countless number of lore inconsistencies and inaccuracies, some of which – the nuking of Shady Sands, for instance – were seen by many as Bethesda's deliberate attempts to tarnish the legacy of Interplay's and Obsidian's Fallout installments.

Among the fans of non-Bethesda Fallout games, the largest community is undeniably that of Fallout: New Vegas, the 2010 installment widely considered the best Fallout game of them all, surpassing not just Bethesda's games – that would've been too easy – but even the original duology in the eyes of many.

Taking into consideration Bethesda/Amazon's tendency to rewrite the series' lore, Amazon's earlier statements about having no intention to please Fallout fans with the TV show, New Vegas being seen as the GOAT in the eyes of the gaming community, and, most importantly, Season 2 being set in the Mojave Wasteland – the same setting as FNV– it certainly feels like we've got a time bomb on our hands, ready to explode as soon as the second season hits the screens.

So, what do you think about Fallout Season 2? Will it somehow manage to please both long-time fans and newcomers, or will it follow in the footsteps of HBO's The Last of Us Season 2, earning the showrunners nothing but poor viewer scores? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
