Fan-Made Bully Online Mod Shuts Down One Month After Release
"This was not something we wanted."
SWEGTA, Rockstar
Just in October, Bully fans were waiting excitedly for the online mod by SWEGTA to come out, and it did in December but couldn't last for long.
"Let's just hope Rockstar doesn't have an issue with this massive project," I said then, and it looks like it did. A month after its release, Bully Online was shut down.
The developers don't explain what happened, although we all have a pretty clear idea, simply saying, "This was not something we wanted."
All the data connected to the project has disappeared from the internet, including the mod's servers, code, and scripts. SWEGTA promised to explain more on January 21.
"The Bully Online project is shutting down forever, which unfortunately means all the following is going to happen in 24 hours: our official Bully Online server (on swegta.com) will be shutdown, development of scripts for Bully Online will stop, the source code will be removed from swegta.com, all our webpages referring to it will be removed, the launcher downloads will taken down, and all Bully Online account data will be permanently deleted,"
The team was sure they'd get away: the mod required a copy of the original game, after all, but one does not simply create a big mod, changing mechanics and adding minigames, roleplay, and racing and expect the rights owner to let it be. Even if it's not Nintendo.
