Fantastic Ocean Simulation Created with Houdini & Blender

3D Artist Albert Thomas, known on Reddit as Great-Drawing2280, showcased a fantasy hyperrealistic simulation of a ship in a roaring ocean.

Take a look at this hyperrealistic ocean simulation showcased by a talented 3D Artist Albert Thomas, known on Reddit as Great-Drawing2280.

The artwork combines a fantasy transition from a ship model to a lifelike sea vessel with a photorealistic graphic fidelity of the scene. First, it is set in a room with warm lighting and interior shades, and then, the ship is transferred to a somber, roaring ocean with raging waves. The artist professionally depicts the ocean surface, capturing the physics of the waves and visualizing them with incredible realism.

The simulation was created using Houdini and rendered in Blender. The artist shared that exporting sim from Houdini to Blender was completed in the following way: Fluid Meshes were brought as Alembic and Whitewater as VDB. The creator advised that one can also bring Whitewater as Alembic particles, but for this artwork, he chose VDB to achieve a foamy look and mist as VDB.
