Feather 3D Received A Major Update

Now available with pressure sensitivity, liquify, lighting and post-process toolsets, dark mode, fully offline access, and more.

While the version number of Feather 3D 1.0 might be a bit confusing, especially since the previous release was Feather 1.5, the 1.0 means the first official commercial release, marking the shift from offering the app for free to a one-time purchase model.

Released in March, Feather 3D is a 3D sketching app that lets artists create in 3D using a pen while on the go. For the optimal experience, a device with both pen and touch inputs, like an iPad, is recommended. Feather empowers you to bring your imagination to life with versatile 3D brushes, seamless and intuitive navigation, and delicate play of light and shadow.

With this new, redesigned Feather, you can enjoy the classic feel of drawing with pressure sensitivity support, complete with new brush styles and patterns for greater expression. Additionally, the app now offers geometric primitives to draw on spheres, cylinders, cones, or rings as a base. The new Liquify tool lets you interactively deform strokes in 3D, adding even more flexibility:

Don't have a pen? Turn on Finger-pen mode to sketch, paint, and edit using only your fingers. Tired of light mode? There's now a new dark UI available for a more comfortable experience.

We've shared some upcoming features teased by the developers prior to the release, which got added to Feather's lighting and post-process toolsets, allowing artists to adjust the light properties and apply post-processing effects to their rendered sketches, including bloom, depth of field, and others:

Here's the list of key Feather 3D 1.0 features, with more to come soon:

  • Fully Offline: Use anywhere without an internet connection;
  • Shapes: Draw straight lines, circles, ellipses, and smooth curves;
  • Eraser: Works exactly as you expect it to;
  • Live Mirror: Draw symmetrical lines with a virtual mirror;
  • Import Reference: Insert images or 3D models into your workspace;
  • Clipboard: Display reference images in a separate window;
  • Background Image: Insert colors or images behind your 3D artwork;
  • AR View: View 3D creations in real-world spaces;
  • Share: Generate a 3D viewer link to share your artwork;
  • Folders: Organize drawings into folders for easy access;
  • Geometric Primitives: Draw on spheres, cylinders, cones, or rings;
  • iCloud Support: Back up your files and keep them safe.

Previously, Feather was available as a web app for Windows and Android devices as well, yet with the release of 1.0, the web version support will be temporarily stopped. As stated in the announcement, as a small team, Sketchsoft isn't yet able to support two products simultaneously, so it was decided to temporarily pause the Web version while focusing on stabilizing the App version.
