According to another source, the game already looks pretty nice.
Adding to the ongoing rumors surrounding the Final Fantasy IX remake, yet another insider has stepped forward, affirming that the game is indeed in development.
The initial buzz about a potential remake of Final Fantasy IX first surfaced back in 2021 through an NVIDIA leak, which encompassed numerous titles. The leak has been accurate so far, with the majority of Square Enix games mentioned there having already been released.
Still, the absence of any official announcements regarding the Final Fantasy IX remake and the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster has left players concerned about the potential cancellation of these projects. However, according to journalist Jeff Grubb, the remake of the beloved PlayStation classic is "real," it hasn't been canceled and development is moving forward.
"I will say I heard very recently once again Final Fantasy IX Remake is real. That is real and happening," Grubb said during his Game Mess Mornings podcast.
In addition to Grubb's confirmation, an insider known as Im A Hero Too on ResetEra shared insights on the Final Fantasy IX remake. They revealed that the game will not adopt an action-oriented gameplay style, and instead will retain the "traditional" gameplay elements.
The insider also commented on the game's visuals, describing them as "very pretty" and emphasizing that "it’s definitely not 'just' a remaster." However, they acknowledged that it may not reach the same level as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
