Flappy Bird's New Owners Answer Questions While Avoiding Main One

Crypto scam or not?

You might have heard that Flappy Bird, the simple game that consumed the world's attention a decade ago, is coming back in a remake under a new owner, Flappy Bird Foundation.

The team went to X/Twitter to answer "questions circulating online" but failed to address the most important issue: is the game a crypto scam?

You see, an investigation uncovered the game's links to Web 3.0 and cryptocurrency, which is automatically considered fraud by many people. One page, now deleted, on Flappy Bird's website revealed that it is a Web3 project built on the blockchain platform Solana.

Flappy Bird Foundation decided to avoid touching this subject in its brief Q&A, but there is some other interesting information there. Flappy Bird's original creator, Dong Nguyen, said that he isn't involved in this remake, didn't sell the project, and doesn't support crypto. But how did Flappy Bird Foundation get its hands on the game?

Apparently, the Flappy Bird trademark has been abandoned, so the team just went and grabbed it. While Dong Nguyen is not part of the production, the Foundation has the creator of Flappy Bird's "predecessor," which definitely inspired the game, – Piou Piou vs. Cactus.

"We noted the similarities between the game Kek [Piou Piou's maker] first published in 2009, and Flappy Bird, which was published in 2013. The gameplay, level design, and the main character all appear strikingly similar.

"Kek has always been an enthusiastic supporter of the Flappy Bird Foundation and our plans to build on the legacy of his game and Flappy Bird. So much so that he has decided to trust the Foundation with the exclusive rights to Piou Piou vs Cactus."

So now the Foundation has the right to both Flappy Bird and Piou Piou. It is planning to bring the bird back to the community and preserve and foster its legacy.
