Foliage Tools for Unreal Engine Has Received a New Beta Version
Rense de Boer continues working on the plug-in.
Technical Art Director Rense de Boer has introduced a new beta version of his Foliage Tools simulation plug-in for Unreal Engine 5, aimed at creating dense forests and landscapes with high-end graphics and performance.
The updated version received a renewed UI and novel features such as auto-calculate cast shadow, Packed level actor support, better gamethread performance and physics control, and a start on interaction nodes allowing data to pass to Niagara for full interaction.
The creator shared that now he works on further developing the tool's functionality. The in-progress features include a Paint tool to brush data directly per instance, an area manager to merge actors at runtime, tiling simulation data and capturing tiling textures from simulated regions, and more.
Rense de Boer also revealed that he is currently focusing on creating starter content and scanning assets, such as rocks, branches, leaves, concrete, asphalt, etc., that will be included with the plugin and as additional packs.
You can learn more details about the tool here. Also, the plug-in is available on Fab.
