Forza Motorsport Won't Enter Polishing Phase Until 2023

The developers shared that the game is now in full production but noted that the team plans to enter the final polishing stage only "sometime" in 2023.

Forza Motorsport was first unveiled during Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in June this year. At the time the developers revealed a new trailer for the game and said that it is set to launch in the spring of 2023. Since then, there has been no update on the new installment in the racing sim series.

However, recently, during September’s Forza Monthly stream, Forza Motorsport General Manager Dan Greenawalt and creative director Chris Esaki shared a few details on the upcoming title. According to Greenawalt, the game is currently in full production, however, the developers haven't even started polishing the racing sim yet – they plan to enter the final polishing stage "sometime" in 2023.

"The final stage, which will be entering as we get into next year, is polish. And polish is really critical. If you've got a massive game like Motorsport and a lot of new systems you're rethinking, that's a lot of surface area to polish. And it takes a lot of time," Greenawalt said. "We're deep in production now, and we'll be heading into that polish phase, sometime in the next year."

It's not clear yet what this means for plans for a spring 2023 release. Since polishing will not begin until January, the release may well be shifted to the second half of 2023. At the end of the stream, show host Leah Alexandra stated that Forza Motorsport is still on track for the initially announced release window, however, she noted that a delay could still be announced before then.
