Fracturing Meshes Using UE5, Niagara & Houdini

Matt Radford has demonstrated a new and very fast way to fracture meshes.

Senior VFX Technical Artist at Epic Games Matt Radford has demonstrated a new and very fast way to fracture meshes using Houdini, Niagara, and Unreal Engine 5, Epic's recently released next-gen game engine.

The artist used Houdini to generate fracture data and render targets generated by Niagara and combined them with an RBD Material Fracture node and vertex shader to animate a stunning shattering effect on the GPU. According to the artist, this project was made to demonstrate the amazing capabilities of Niagara in UE5. Matt also commented that Unreal Engine 5's Lumen was able to properly handle the experiment.
