Differential Growth lets you make organic shapes like algae and lettuce.
Boris Okunskiy
It's time to make some interesting shapes with the Differential Growth add-on for Blender created by Boris Okunskiy.
The generative tool allows you to make natural patterns and grow your own virtual plants or organisms in the software. It is inspired by the growth "occurring in living organisms such as lichens, algae, poriferae, corals and other kinds of organic forms."
"People have always been attracted to organic forms, as is evidenced by an endless number of various design elements found in human craft and art since prehistoric times; the “Mother Nature” has always been a source of inspiration and symbolism for people throughout the globe. The desire to contemplate and reflect upon the organic processes seems to be an inherent part of human nature," Okunskiy said on the project's page.

The add-on is free and can be downloaded from GitHub. Okunskiy warns that you should be careful with it, save your progress often, and set the Undo steps to the maximum as the tool is destructive and thus modifies the mesh.
