Walter Delgado made his latest project available to the public.
A while ago, 3D Rigging Artist Walter Delgado began developing his own animation retargeting tool within Maya. The idea was to take any rig and translate the action without regard to control orientation or naming.
In the video below, you can see an example of using an animated skeleton from Mixamo on a custom character. "The configuration only involves the use of matrix nodes to find the relative movement so it's not something complicated to imagine. As a future task, I would like to improve the interface to make it more manageable and also add an option to change the relative movement so this can translate the movement directly into IK controls," commented the artist.
Following the demo, Walter Delgado shared his tool with the public for free, noting that he tried to make it as simple and intuitive as possible so you wouldn't need any guides and tutorials. He mentioned that he has plans to enhance this project with additional features and intends to release an upgraded version in the future, inviting all feedback.
