Sensor Tower data shows that Genshin Impact was the world’s highest-grossing Gacha-based mobile game in Q1 2022.
Genshin Impact has crossed the mark of $3 billion in global spending across the App Store and Google Play, the new report from Sensor Tower reveals.
The game was first launched in September 2020, so on average, it generates $1 billion every six months. The first billion dollars was reached within 171 after its release and in the next 195 days, it accumulated another $1 billion. 185 days later, the game surpassed $3 billion in consumer spending.
Genshin Impact became the top-grossing game among all the Gacha-based mobile titles in Q1 2022. During this period, it generated $567 million. The closest pursuers are Lineage W with $272 million and Uma Musume: Pretty Derby with $236 million.
In terms of revenue generated by mobile titles globally, Genshin Impact takes the No. 3 spot following PUBG Mobile localized as Game for Peace in China and Honor of Kings.
Most of Genshin Impact's earnings were brought by the Chinese market which generated $973.3 million of the game's revenue (30.7%). It's worth noting that the data only includes purchases made on iOS, as Sensor Tower doesn't count third-party Android stores. The Japanese market brought the game 23.7% of its revenue and the USA delivered 19.7%. Around 70% of Genshin Impact's total revenue comes from Asia.
The App Store accounts for 65.7% of total revenue, mostly due to earnings from iOS in China, while Google Play accounts for 34.3% of total player spending. Outside of China, App Store makes up 50.5%, and Google Play accounts for 49.5%.
The report also notes that the number of Genshin Impact's monthly active users increased in the first quarter of 2022 by 44%.
