Ghislain Girardot Teases a New Tutorial on Making Wind & Grass in UE5
The artist shared a series of demos highlighting some cool techniques that will be described in the upcoming tutorial.
In case you missed it, Game Developer and Content Creator Ghislain Girardot, widely known as the digital water guru, made an exciting announcement a week ago, stating that he had begun working on a brand-new extensive tutorial.
Proving that the creator's expertise is not limited to only water, the new tutorial promises to focus primarily on the topic of creating digital grass in Unreal Engine 5, showing how to set up a particles-driven 2D wind system, explaining how to achieve realistic grass with shader-driven height, curvature, and clump parameters, discussing a cool billboard technique to augment perceived grass density, and much more.
As per tradition, Ghislain followed the initial announcement with a slew of behind-the-scenes demos, teasing the soon-to-be-revealed UE5 tutorial, highlighting some of the techniques that will be described in it, and showcasing some impeccable results you'll be able to achieve in the end. Attached below are some of the demos shared by the author, we highly encourage you to follow Ghislain on Twitter so as not to miss any future updates and the tutorial's release:
Last year, the developer also shared an enormous 2-hour-long video presenting a brand-new custom-made procedural waterfall generation tool and providing a thorough explanation of how it was made in Unreal Engine 5.
The first part of the video focuses on showcasing the generator itself and its capabilities, discussing the idea behind the project, and covering such topics as UVs, water simulation, FX, particles, and geometry shared settings.
The second part of the video, around one and a half hours long, offers a deeper dive into the setup, with the creator addressing such topics as UE5's Editor Utility Widgets, custom physics solvers, Blueprints, path sampling, and geometry scripting. You can watch the full tutorial here.
