Director Chad Stahelski provides a highly promising update on the Ghost of Tsushima movie after two years of development. The original game by Sucker Punch revolved around a samurai seeking redemption following the annihilation of his clan by Mongol invaders on the island of Tsushima. The protagonist faced the choice of sticking to the warrior code and fighting honorably or achieving success with minimal casualties. Stahelski, renowned for directing all four John Wick films, was announced as the director and producer of the Ghost of Tsushima movie in early 2021.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant for the Oscars campaign of John Wick: Chapter 4, Stahelski shared a long-awaited update on the Ghost of Tsushima movie. He confirmed that the script is completed and that the creative team is nearing readiness, expressing the need to wait for the resolution of ongoing strikes before progressing further.

"We have a script, we're very close to getting our s--t together on that, as well. Development is always tricky, it's studios, it's strikes, and availabilities, and scouting. You have to will things into existence. I think the two things that I am closest and most interested in are Highlander and Ghost of Tsushima. Both amazing, amazing properties, the story of Ghost is, also, one of my favorite properties of all time," said Stahelski to Screen Rant.

As Screen Rant noticed, Stahelski's passion for the Ghost of Tsushima movie makes him a great choice as Director. He is dedicated to faithfully adapting the game, including advocating for an all-Japanese cast to speak in their native language to maintain authenticity. Despite working on the Highlander reboot, his commitment to Ghost of Tsushima shows promise for its ongoing development.

In June, Stahelski expressed the possibility of expanding the adaptation beyond a single film. He emphasized the importance of creating a satisfying 2-2.5-hour movie that allows for future expansion.
