Ghost of Yōtei, Ghost of Tsushima’s Sequel, is Coming in 2025

It will feature brand-new mechanics, gameplay, and weapons.

Today’s State of Play is closed with a surprising new title announcement from Ghost of Tsushima’s developer — Sucker Punch has officially unveiled Ghost of Yōtei, a sequel to the beloved 2020 action-adventure game.

The sequel will feature a brand new protagonist named Atsu, instead of continuing the story of Ghost of Tsushima’s Jin Sakai. The new original story will take place around 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima and is set in areas around Mount Yōtei, which is known as Hokkaido, located in the northern part of modern Japan.

In the announcement post, the developer explained their thoughts behind this upcoming title: "When we set out to make a new Ghost game, we wanted to maintain the core pillars established in Ghost of Tsushima: playing as a wandering warrior in Feudal Japan, offering freedom to explore at your own pace, and highlighting the beauty of the world."

And they do mean it when saying "highlighting the beauty of the world," as the trailer presents a gorgeous and vivid world waiting to be explored. The majestic Mount Yōtei in the distance, the plains with rich vegetation, the snowy landscapes, and the beautiful night sky painted by stunning aurora are genuinely mesmerizing.

Other than the enhanced visuals, Ghost of Yōtei also aims to create an innovative narrative and shift focus to "the idea of the Ghost." Players can expect to enjoy "new mechanics, gameplay improvements, and even new weapons."

Despite not offering too many details about the new game, which is "built from the ground up for PlayStation 5," the developer has promised to unveil more about the protagonist and the characters involved in her journey in the coming months before its launch date that's scheduled for 2025.
