Give You Hand-Painted Brush Strokes Real Depth & Lighting In Substance 3D Painter
Aysu Hoşcan released ABN Painterly Normals.
3D Artist Aysu Hoşcan, whose lovely Arcane-style painterly lantern we showcased recently, has released a tool she used in its creation.
Designed for stylized, painterly, and hand-painted assets, ABN Painterly Normals automatically generates stylized normal detail from base color/albedo data, helping artists improve lighting response without manually painting every normal map detail from scratch. It also includes a manual painting workflow, so you can directly paint brush stroke data and see it instantly affect the generated normal detail.
After installing the tool, you can simply drag and drop the ABN setup asset onto your model to get started. Most of the controls are managed through a single layer inside Substance 3D Painter, keeping the workflow simple. Includes adjustable parameters for better control. Substance 3D Painter version 10.0 or newer is recommended for best performance and compatibility.
You can watch the full process of creating the lantern and see how Aysu used ABN Painterly Normals while making it:
She has just released ABN Painterly Normals 1.1, which adds UDIM support, better optimization, and a more precise control option for Seam Fix.
