Beautiful physics.
A Reddit user known as StunningAd6534 is working on a Human Fall Flat-style grip system in Unreal Engine 5 and has successfully enabled characters to pick up items. However, there's an amusing issue: when a character grabs a wall and walks away, its arms stretch in a hilariously exaggerated manner.
Another user by the name of jmancoder suggested StunningAd6534 to make breakable constraints between the sphere colliders and the wall. "It's not how Human Fall Flat does it, but Human Fall Flat simulates the entire character, not just the upper body. So when you grab a wall and walk away, the entire character ragdolls. In your current setup, the lower body has infinite force against the upper body because it is kinematic, so grabbing a wall and backing away will not stop the character from moving", added the developer.
Last year, we interviewed Peter Javidpour about the Digital Puppeteering project, which used an Unreal Engine-based system to create virtual ragdoll puppets. If you're interested in this topic, be sure to check it out.
Nan Ma, LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS's Senior Game Engine Developer, also discussed with us the current state of full-body physical interaction solutions and talked about Wobbledoll, an advanced full-body ragdoll system:
