Google, Microsoft & OpenAI CEOs Have Been Called to White House
The companies will discuss AI issues.
CEOs of Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic have reportedly been called to the White House to discuss AI issues with Vice President Kamala Harris and top administration officials.
According to Reuters, the invitation mentioned President Joe Biden's "expectation that companies like yours must make sure their products are safe before making them available to the public."
The boom of generative AI has been raising concerns for some time now. The problem lies not only in machines substituting humans and the lack of copyright laws for them but also in how safe it is to share information with AI. Recently, Italy temporarily blocked ChatGPT after a data leak, then Samsung warned its employees against using such programs on company-owned devices. China is also wary of the power and allegedly told big tech companies not to offer these services to the public due to the chatbot's uncensored replies.
The AI companies' meeting at the White House will be held on Thursday. It will be attended by Biden's Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Director of the National Economic Council Lael Brainard and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo among others.
