Developed as a fully-fledged renderer feature, the asset lets you add raymarched volumetric fog to your scenes.
In case you missed it, back in February, Technical Artist and renowned Unity enthusiast Mirza Beig showcased a series of experiments with custom-made volumetric fog in Unity Universal Render Pipeline (URP), promising to share the setup as a free downloadable asset.
Several months later, the maestro delivered on his promise by releasing the effect on the Unity Asset Store, completely free of charge. Developed as a fully-fledged renderer feature, the asset allows you to add raymarched volumetric fog to your scenes and performs fast even on mobile and low-end hardware.
The package includes a demo scene and the render pipeline asset, with the feature already set up for quick previewing. According to Mirza, the effect serves as an excellent starting point for those interested in learning about raymarching, volume rendering, FX compositing, and optimization in Unity.
Going forward, the developer plans to share a Pro version of the asset, complete with more features and support for self-shading, multiple light sources, procedural density fields, and multi-scattering blur, and more. He also plans to share a blog post or a tutorial discussing the effect's features in more depth. In the meantime, you can download the Lite version of Volumetric Fog (URP) by clicking this link.
