GreedFall Developer Will Reportedly Be Closed Soon After 18 Years

There are no buyers for Spiders.

Spiders

The Spiders game development studio was founded in 2008 by former creators of Silverfall and has released several games, with GreedFall and The Technomancer being the most popular of them. However, after all these years, rumor has it the company will be shut down soon.

According to Origami, Spiders can't find a buyer after its parent, Nacon, filed for insolvency earlier this year. Sources cited by the outlet say the court-appointed administrator will request its liquidation today, a "mere formality at this stage."

"The CSE is organizing, as best it can, the buyback of their equipment by employees who wish to do so, and the staff of Spiders has chosen to turn tonight’s final weekly drink into a formal tribute to the studio’s eighteen years of existence. French law theoretically requires the liquidator to carry out layoffs within fifteen days following the ruling," Origami says (machine-translated).

However strongly I want to believe this is just a rumor, a LinkedIn post from one of Spiders' former artists, Arthur Munoz, suggests it's not.

"Spiders Games is closing its doors... Hard to put into words what this means after all these years… Thousands of animations, countless iterations, and a lot of passion poured into every frame.

Grateful for the people I worked with and the trust I was given to bring these characters to life. It’s been part of my identity, 12 years creating within those walls, alongside some incredible people. Even though I’m no longer there, this is sad news."

The news is especially tragic considering GreedFall: The Dying World was released just over a month ago.

Hopefully, there is still a creative journey ahead for Spiders' developers.
