GTA 6 Leaker Assesed as Unfit to Stand Trial

Instead, the jury will decide whether or not 18-year-old Arion Kurtaj committed the offenses.

Last September, the game industry experienced one of the most massive leaks in its history when Lapsus$, a hacking group also responsible for attacking Microsoft, NVIDIA, Uber, and many other companies, released a 3 GB folder of files and documents related to the development of Rockstar's upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, revealing the title's WiP gameplay, characters, setting, and more.

Following the leak, the group also announced that they had more of the developer's confidential documents in their possession, trying to sell GTA 5 and 6's source code, Rockstar's employee details, invoices, and contracts, primarily to Rockstar itself. The studio responded by acknowledging the leak and stating that the "work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned".

Ten months later, after an investigation conducted by the FBI, the story appears to be approaching its conclusion. Two individuals, 18-year-old Arion Kurtaj and an unnamed 17-year-old, described as significant figures within Lapsus$, are currently facing twelve and seven charges, respectively. However, in a surprising turn of events, Kurtaj has been deemed unfit to stand trial, introducing an unexpected twist to the unfolding narrative.

As reported by Reuters, Kurtaj, whose list of offenses includes three counts of blackmail, two counts of fraud, and six charges under the Computer Misuse Act, has undergone psychiatric evaluation and has been deemed unfit to stand trial. In light of this assessment, the jury will not deliver a traditional guilty or not guilty verdict but will instead determine whether Kurtaj indeed committed the alleged acts.

The report also mentions that the second hacker has been charged with two counts of blackmail, two counts of fraud, and three charges under the Computer Misuse Act relating to the hacking of the UK's BT Group and NVIDIA.
