It features full motion controls, 6DOF, nice visuals, manual reloading, and more.
A team of developers is working on a VR mod for Half-Life 2. First approved by Valve in 2017, the mod is now in closed beta, with a release window set to the end of 2022.
The mod features smooth locomotion, where the direction of motion can be configured to either follow your head or any of the two controllers. You will also see realistic weapon interactions inspired by Half-Life: Alyx as well as updated effects, textures, models, and maps.
And the best part is the mod will be free for anyone owning the original Half-Life 2 game. It went through the development hell but is now getting ready for the release. The developers led by WormSlayer would like to launch the mod for Half-Life 2's 18th anniversary in November; it's not set in stone, but the creators hope to have it fully ready by the end of the year.
The mod is targeting SteamVR and has been successfully tested on the Index, Quest, Vive, and Pimax headsets.
The team promised to get the VR versions of Episodes 1 and 2 eventually, but for now, the main game is the priority.
