Hard-Surface Retopology Just Got Easier In Blender

ReFace 2.0 can now handle 3D scans, AI-generated models, sculpted meshes, and other messy geometry.

ReFace by Feras Yahya is a precision modeling toolkit for Blender that comes with a bunch of useful tools for mesh cleanup, CAD-style measurements, reference-based editing, retopology, viewport overlays, and object isolation.

The latest release significantly expands the hard-surface retopology workflow, especially for messy meshes that don't already have clean edge flow: 3D scans, AI-generated models, or sculpted meshes. In the video above, the developer walks through the updates, current limitations, and where the tool could go next.

ReFace 2.0.5 adds a new Drawn Patch Mode to the Corner Guided Grid Refill workflow, new ways to extend patches, sector decomposition, improved Display Modes, and a more flexible Knife Tool for creating and editing retopology patches.

You might also want to check out Hardcraft, a new Blender add-on by Vitaliy Yablonskiy focused on CAD export retopology. It's currently free while it's still in alpha. In the same article, you can also find a similar tool for hard-surface art by Andrei Bezgodov.

If 3ds Max is your go-to modeling tool, Mihail Lupu recently released retoPoly, a new native retopology modifier that makes creating clean topology directly on high-resolution surfaces faster and more intuitive:
