Heart Machine has reportedly laid off part of its staff, marking the second round of layoffs this month.
The studio hasn't announced the recent job cuts, but several employees have taken to social media to share that they were let go. As brought to our attention by Game Developer, four former staff members shared their experiences on Bluesky. One developer writes: "My time at Heart Machine has sadly come to a rather abrupt end. I was there for almost 6 years, & had been working on Breaker since summer 2020. It was a pleasure working with them! Now, a new chapter begins."
"My heart is heavy & I might have more to say on that later, but I've got news today that my time at Heart Machine will come to an end after Possessor(s) ships," another developer shares. "I'm honestly too busy... literally shipping the game to start actively looking for work, but I'll be looking for my next gig in December." "I just wanted to post, I'm laid off.  Just shouting into the void of the internet!  It was a beautiful and wonderful team of people to work with at HM," reads one more post.
Another Bluesky post includes a video in which Heart Machine community and PR manager Yiyi Zhang shares that Heart Machine laid off "a bunch more people, effective immediately." The worker notes that the layoffs occurred just ahead of the upcoming release of Heart Machine’s platformer Possessor(s), set to launch on November 11, and wonders whether anyone who worked on the game will still be with the company by then.
Earlier in October, Heart Machine laid off part of its workforce, but didn't specify how many people were affected. Last November, the studio also let go of a "portion" of its staff.
