Helldivers 2 Steam Players Will Be Forced To Link A PSN Account

That's not very democratic, Sony.

Helldivers 2 will soon require Steam players to link their account to PlayStation Network, which was previously optional at launch.

In the new post, Sony announced that account linking is the main way to protect the players' accounts and enable the banning of those who engage in abusive behavior. Starting May 6th, all new Helldivers 2 players on Steam will be required to connect their account to a PlayStation Network one, while current players will start to see the mandatory login from May 30th and will be required to have linked a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4th.

"Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games.

This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behavior. It also allows those players who have been banned the right to appeal", commented Sony.

While PlayStation Network accounts are free and easy to set up, not only this requirement doesn't seem quite literally democratic, but also raises concerns about regions that don't have PlayStation Network. According to the Helldivers 2 Discord's community managers, Arrowhead is actively looking into how to address this issue.

Steam players aren't enthusiastic about this linking update either, making valid points about entrusting your data and agreeing to ToS of a third-party company, going as far as intending to ask Valve for full refunds regardless of time played for anyone who purchased Helldivers 2 prior to this announcement.
