Jack Anderson shared a detailed breakdown explaining how you can recreate the portal effect from the most recent Spider-Verse movie.
Real-Time VFX Artist Jack Anderson has recently paid tribute to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, a 2023 animated superhero movie showcasing an incredible recreation of a stylized portal effect from the film.
As stated by the artist, this particular portal effect was selected for its vibrant colors and gradual appearance, with Anderson describing the FX as a fantastic way to enhance shader skills with minimal use of Niagara. To replicate the effect, the artist utilized a variety of software, including Maya, Substance 3D Painter, Substance 3D Designer, Unreal Engine, and Adobe Premiere.
"I absolutely loved the film and watched it more than once, so I really wanted to dedicate an effect to it for my portfolio," commented the creator. "I ended up going with the Spider-Verse Portal effect since it was a great way to improve my shader skills with minimal Niagara applied."
Furthermore, the author has also shared a detailed breakdown, offering a closer look at the textures, explaining how the effect's different shaders were set up, and more. You can access the full breakdown by clicking this link.
