The news of Nintendo delaying Switch 2 until 2025 has made players disappointed as its predecessor was released in 2017 and since then, has met a competitor in Steam Deck. The company's shares dipped after this, and it's no wonder. It's high time we got an updated version of the handheld, but Nintendo is in no rush, and there is a reason behind it.
Several, in fact. According to Eurogamer, the date is meant to ensure Switch 2 arrives with a rich line-up of games. Nintendo will probably introduce a variety of new titles together with the console. Of course, it means that 2024 will be a dry year for the company with few releases.
Another reason, as pointed out by the Japanese news outlet Nikkei, is the company's desire to make sure it has enough consoles in stock to meet the undoubtedly high demand so the device doesn't repeat the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, which famously struggled with parts supply.
Moreover, Nikkei suggested that Nintendo might delay Switch 2 even further, until later in 2025, if needed. This would be devastating but hopefully worth it when all those freshly baked titles are out on the device.
