The director says the new tech shouldn't be the primary source of art.
Hideo Kojima, the game director behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, discussed his feelings toward generative AI. At the New York City premiere of the Hideo Kojima documentary, Kojima shared he doesn't believe AI should replace humans as the primary creators of art. If he has to work with it, Kojima said he would order AI to do something, but if the AI doesn't listen, he would "gut that AI."
Kojima noted though that he is not totally against using it saying that AI might help shorten the years-long production process. The director imagined a four-year development cycle employing approximately 600 people for a triple-A video game. He said it might be changed to 300 with AI, but the creator still has to order what to do, which is time-consuming, Kojima noted.
"I don’t think AI would take over," Kojima said. "I will order AI to do something and if they don’t listen I will gut that AI Humans should be above it."
While Kojima believes AI shouldn't replace humans as the primary creators of art, some large studios have already started experimenting with the new tech. Marvel currently is being criticized for using AI in the Secret Invasion intro. What's your take on AI?
