Hideo Kojima Would Like to Explore Making Movies and Music
Death Stranding creator has shared that, apart from making games, he is interested in creating movies and music in the future.
At the recent Anan Awards in Japan, renowned game designer Hideo Kojima shared that he would like to explore other mediums apart from games.
According to the Japanese outlet Famitsu, the Anan Awards was launched in 2020 to award people who pioneered something or became the icons of our time. At this year's ceremony, Kojima received the award in the Culture category for his work on Death Stranding.
During his speech at the Anan Awards, the game designer said that creating games has always been his focus but noted that "since all fields are connected in digital works", he would like to "expand from games to fields such as video and music."
Kojima has already stated his interest in other mediums apart from games. For instance, Kojima's Twitter bio reads that "70% of [his] body is made of movies." The game designer also previously said that Kojima Productions "will explore various possibilities with games, movies, and music through platforms that evolve with time and technology."
Last year, Kojima Productions also revealed that it was launching a new studio in Los Angeles that would be focused on music, TV, and film. According to Kojima, the new studio's work should begin in earnest this year.
It's unclear, however, when Hideo Kojima will start producing movies and music as currently, he is already busy with multiple projects. One of them is believed to be Death Stranding 2 as the original game's actor, Norman Reedus, confirmed the existence of the sequel in May. Besides, in early June, Hideo Kojima shared that he is now working on a new game for Xbox that he has "always wanted to make" which is based on "Microsoft's cutting edge cloud technology".
In addition, it is believed that Kojima Productions is developing a title supposedly named "Overdose". According to game insider Tom Henderson, this game will be a horror title with a protagonist played by actress Margaret Qualley who also played Mama in Death Stranding.
Kojima has also been teasing a new mysterious project lately. While the nature of this game is unclear yet, Kojima Productions confirmed that Maleficent and The Great star Elle Fanning as well as Shioli Kutsuna, who played Yukio in Deadpool 2, will appear in the game.
