Highly-Realistic 3D Environments Set Up in Blender

Hrishikesh Bedre showcased a collection of stunning scenes and shared some details on how they were made.

Over the past few weeks, 3D Artist and Blender enthusiast Hrishikesh Bedre published a collection of impeccable 3D environments that push the level of digital realism to a whole new level.

Shared via the r/blender board on Reddit, the scenes were set up in Blender using a variety of different add-ons and rendered on a GTX 1650 GPU. Additionally, the creator shared a ton of details regarding each environment, detailing the workflow and listing various tools that were used during production.

Today, let's have a closer look at Hrishikesh's outstanding pieces and learn more about what it takes to set up a realistic 3D environment in Blender.

The first environment, attached above, was powered by Blender 3.5, with the artist's workflow consisting of gathering reference images, placing the camera and sculpting the ground, adding the ground material with displacement, scattering weeds and grass, adding the trees, setting up the lighting and rendering the scene. To set up the trees and grass, the creator utilized polygoniq's botaniq add-on and Graswald's tools, respectively, while the water was made with the help of the Real Water tool.

The second scene was set up using a similar workflow, with the artist also utilizing the botaniq add-on to create the moss on the fallen trees. Additionally, Hrishikesh utilized assets from the Megascans library.

The final environment, which unlike the previous two was created using a newer Blender 3.6 version of the software, was also created with botaniq and Gscatter, with the author also utilizing an HDRI from the NoEmotion HDRs library to set up the lighting. The centerpiece of the composition, an abandoned-looking brick building, was made by Abandoned Scans and is available for free via Sketchfab.
