Hiro Capital Invests in the Newly-Formed Loric Games Studio

The studio is founded by Mythic Entertainment veterans and plans to specialize in co-op survival RPGs.

VC fund Hiro Capital has revealed that it has become the chief investor in Loric Games, a newly-formed studio founded by former Mythic Entertainment veterans.

Loric Games was founded in March by Brian Johnson, Ray Soto, and Rob Denton, who is also Mythic's co-founder. The three developers contributed to such Mythic titles as Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer Online, as well as BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic.

According to the Northern Virginia-based studio, its goal is to "instill the co-op survival RPG genre with a much-needed sense of wonder and storytelling." The team is currently working on its debut project which will be announced in 2023. Players can currently sign up early for alpha and beta testing on the studio's website

"We're building a game that's more than just eating berries, punching trees, and building thatch huts. We all love playing games with heroic stories," said Loric Games CEO Brian Johnson. "Through our long history of developing games, we've bought into the idea that good storytelling can set a game apart. The survival experience can be much more impactful with the right blend of story and open-world gameplay mechanics."

"We’re thrilled to be the lead investor in Loric Games," Spike Laurie, Partner at Hiro Capital, commented. "It’s fair to say that I’ve spent far too much time in the worlds that Rob and Brian and their team have created, and we’re confident that their next adventure is going to be even more compelling."
