Warner Bros. Discovery's chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels has stated that the sequel to the game adaptation of the renowned Harry Potter series, Hogwarts Legacy, is one of the company's primary focuses.

Variety reports that during an interview at Bank of America's 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference this Wednesday, Weidenfels said: "Obviously, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road." He also underscored the contribution of the games business to the company's growth: "So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that business in our strategic outlook here." Weidenfels also called Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, one of the company's recent releases, a "miss" but stated that the games business still remains the studio's "strategic asset."

Before, it was reported that the company planned to sell its game division's stake shares to avoid a break-up. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, released in February 2024, happened to be one of the company's largest failures, costing Warner Bros. $200 million.

In contrast, Hogwarts Legacy was an immense success and became one of the fastest-growing and best-selling games of 2023. It exceeded the publisher's expectations, and fans spent over 406 million hours playing it over two months after its release. Retail sales in Q1 2023 brought the company over $1 billion.
