Horror Game from Developer of Soma & Amnesia: The Dark Descent Postponed to 2027

The game, titled Ontos, is a mind-bending story set on a repurposed moon hotel.

Frictional Games, the developer behind SOMA and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, has delayed the release of its upcoming horror game Ontos to 2027. The game will launch on PC, Xbox, and PS5, and features award-winning actor Stellan Skarsgård. Ontos was first announced at The Game Awards 2025.

The title is a sci-fi mystery thriller, "taking you to the edge of existence," called a spiritual successor to Soma. Set on a repurposed moon hotel Samsara, the adventure features a mind-bending narrative with chilling experiments and unsettling encounters. You take on the role of Aditi Amani, invited to the space facility by the cryptic legacy of your father, a mind-turned-prophet. In that strange place, you need to search for answers, relying on the fragments from your father's past, but reality begins shifting and changing, and the truth lies beneath deception and obscurity.

"At its core, ONTOS is an immersive narrative with a tactile, systems-driven gameplay experience. Ingenuity and research are your greatest weapons. You'll scavenge materials, manipulate intricate machinery, and engage with analog systems requiring careful calibration and hands-on interaction."

The surreal location of the moon hotel is an interconnected labyrinth with labs, casinos, empty pools, moon caves, and more, where every corner tells a story.
