Hotline Miami Creators Discussed Its Design, Past, and Future

Dennaton Games, the creators of Hotline Miami founded by programmer Jonatan Söderström and artist Dennis Wedin, talked about their past, founding the studio, their first game prototype, Hotline Miami design and creation, and the company's future.

Released in October 2012, Hotline Miami was Dennaton Games' first popular game. There, you need to murder everyone on the floor while wearing masks giving you different perks. 

The creators say that while each of them does their own thing, the game's design is the fruit of their teamwork. They mention they didn't think about the players' reactions while making the game. Moreover, the perks from masks were not originally in the game and were added after the publisher talked about it in an interview.

The game's sequel didn't do as well as the first one, which surprised the developers. They see the problem in the game's difficulty, which proved too challenging for many players. 

Right now, Dennaton Games work on a new project, which is different from their most famous game, and see it as a clean start. So far, there is not much information about it, but the creators call it a passion project and don't expect everyone to enjoy it.
