These screenshots give us a sneak peek at Project Odyssey's map, customization feature, respawn choices, and more.
Project Odyssey was a survival game set in a fantasy world that Blizzard announced in January 2022. Unfortunately, the game never saw the light of day. In January of this year, the development of the project was canceled due to Microsoft's massive layoffs affecting nearly 2,000 employees, including those who were working on the title.

Recently, some leaked images from Codenamed Odyssey showed up on VK.com, a Russian social media website, giving us a sneak peek at this fairytale-style game. These screenshots not only display part of the riverside environment with a rich plantation but also show UI panels, including pages to select tools/weapons, check character status, respawn choices, quest list, multiplayer elements, and more.
On the screenshot that shows respawn choices, players could select “GATE” as a respawn location, which was said to be “822 steps away,” giving us a clue about the size of the map.
Codenamed Odyssey was initially conceived as a survival game, similar to titles like Minecraft and Rust. The map was expected to be vast enough to hold up to 100 players. As Unreal Engine, where the game was prototyped, lacks such capability, Blizzard executives decided to switch to Synapse, an engine designed for mobile games. This action caused some problems.

Despite the game being announced in 2022, according to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, the development of the game had been going on for more than six years and the team was even planning to expand in order to get the game released in 2026. But all those efforts and progress were cleared with the layoff.
