A Blender project by 愛犬 オー.
Take a look at this cute girl smiling thanks to a rig created by 愛犬 オー in Blender.
According to the creator's tweet (machine-translated), the indents for the eyes and mouth were made using booleans. Shape keys on the eyes and mouth were synchronized with bone movements.
"It's great that rich facial expressions can be achieved while keeping the face topology simple!"
"Bone movement alone (up and down) only allows binary expressions (0,1), but by adding scaling, you can achieve four combinations: 00, 01, 10, and 11. For the mouth, an additional stage is included, making it six variations."
However, at certain angles, the calculations become unstable, and booleans stops working correctly. For example, when the face turns to the left, the eye boolean breaks, "Strangely, turning to the right at the same angle doesn't cause the same issue, so I really don't understand why."
