Indie Dev Sets Game Price Based On London's Real-Time Temperature To Celebrate 10th Anniversary

A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build, a cute puzzle game where you are a little monster trying to build snowmen, turns 10 years old on February 25. Developer Draknek & Friends has a brilliant idea for celebrating it — pay what the temperature is. 

Instead of setting an arbitrary discount, the price of the game would be based on the current temperature in London, 1.8°C = $1.80. Therefore, to buy the game at a better deal than its normal price, $14.99, you might want to check it out at night in London, and it is better in winter when playing with snow and building snowmen are right in the mood. The data is automatically obtained from OpenWeather and updated hourly. Notably, this pricing policy will only be supported on Itch.io, as other platforms, such as Steam or mobile, do not offer such flexibility. 

If you wonder what will happen when the temperature drops to 0 °C or even lower, the game will be free, and no, you won't get paid to buy it at minus degrees. If you get used to using Fahrenheit and Kelvin instead of Centigrade, the prices would be much higher. However, the developers would "appreciate your generosity" if you maintain that price.

Developed by puzzle experts Draknek & Friends, A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build receives overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. The team is also working on their next game called The Electrifying Incident: A Monster Mini-Expedition, an adorable bite-sized adventure that'll offer around 30-90 minutes of playtime, featuring the same monster protagonist from the snowman game.
